Size and Distance
A diameter of about 3,474 kilometers, making it roughly one-quarter the size of our planet. Despite its smaller size, it still appears large in the sky because it is relatively close to Earth. The Moon orbits at an average distance of about 384,400 kilometers
Composition
The Moon’s composition is similar to Earth’s outer layers but with some key differences. It is made mostly of rocky material, with very little metal compared to Earth. The crust is primarily composed of oxygen, silicon, magnesium, iron, calcium, and aluminum.
Lunar Cycle
The lunar cycle is the repeating pattern of the Moon’s phases as it orbits Earth, lasting about 29.5 days. During this cycle, the Moon appears to change shape because we see different portions of its sunlit side.
